The title of the sculpture "Stairs to the Heaven" speaks for itself and the sculpture is not accidentally placed opposite the location of the military unit of 72nd brigade. This is an abstract composition, but you can see the stairs leading to the sky, and thanks to the material used (polished stainless steel), merge with the environment, as if penetrating the sky.
The idea of sculpture refers the viewer to the events of modern history. When you enter Bila Tserkva from Kyiv, you are greeted from the billboard by the young noble faces of Ukrainian soldiers who died for Ukraine in the war that is still going on in the East part of the country. Today we do not know - how many more Ukrainians will be taken by this war, how many more souls will go by symbolic stairs to Heaven. The sculpture is dedicated to brave defenders. Thanks to their courage, Ukraine (during the war) is developing economically and culturally, and the participants of this international symposium had the opportunity to come together and work together to create a contemporary image of Bila Tserkva.
Sculpture “Stairs to the Heaven” has many other meanings and everyone can find and add their own. It continues the artist's series where Lyudmyla Mysko uses only one simple geometric shape - here it is a square. The whole structure is made of cubes. In this work, the void has the same weight as the metal material. The structure creates a double twisted spiral, and it can be correlated with a circle and interpreted as a way to unfold the life force; the spiral is a symbol of life. Like a circle, the spiral is associated with the image of infinity and embodies the idea of development, continuity and cosmic rhythms. This idea brings the additional meaning to the sculpture - the sacrifice of Ukrainian soldiers is not in vain, it ensures the development of Ukraine as an independent state.
Lyudmyla Mysko is a contemporary Ukrainian sculptor, author of monumental works in more than 25 countries. She graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts, Kyiv, Ukraine.
