II International Sculpture Symposium held in the fall of 2021, proved that regular cultural events increase appeal for the project and emphasize its status.
This time the geography of the Symposium participants expanded to the Netherlands (Jerome and Roeki Simons), Serbia (Nedim Hadziahmetovic), Turkey (Ilker Yardimci , Songül Girgin) and Ukraine (Lyudmyla Mysko), who became the winners of the call for artists selection.
The theme of the II International Sculpture Symposium "Synergy" was defined by the curators as a positive effect of interaction, interchange between individuals, factors, aimed at harmonizing existence. It covered not only the topic for future sculptures, but also the general concept of the project.
"Curators work in synergy with sculptors. When choosing the theme of the Symposium and the location of the sculptures, we always take into account the local context. The success of the project depends on a well-organized process and selection of participants. The Symposium is a powerful tool for a city that has an ambitious development strategy and is ready to assert itself both locally and internationally.”

“Synergy is expressed in the improvement of the result due to interaction. My sculpture "Gaze" aims to express this concept through form. The cut pieces, when connected, form a recognizable outline. The illusion effect that the viewer has when moving around the sculpture turns the perception process into a game. In my opinion, the gamification of interaction with the sculpture will make it possible to better understand and feel the synergy as such. "
Ilker Yardimci
sculptor, participant of the Symposium
The International Sculpture Symposium in Bila Tserkva is a unique project for Ukraine thanks to its format based on involvement and openness.
For two and a half weeks residents and guests of the city could see the process of creating sculptures from metal, communicate with sculptors and feel the Synergy of the process.
In addition to diligent work, a series of artist-talks took place during the Symposium. Participants could ask questions to the artists and look behind the scenes of the art world. Artist-talks were moderated by the Symposium curators Valeria Goloskokova and Anna Ledeneva-Prakhova.
It was interesting to learn about the still existing gender stereotypes from the experience of Lyudmyla Mysko, a sculptor from Kyiv who has been creating sculptures for public spaces around the world for many years.
During an artist-talk, Songül Girgin, a sculptor from Istanbul, unexpectedly revealed the secret that her sculpture is not only an art object, but also a musical instrument. Songul invited local musicians to participate in a jam session to better feel the rhythm and sounds of the sculpture.

“The “Leyla” sculpture is not only a romantic love story, but also a musical instrument. The middle part of the sculpture is built on the principle of a xylophone, the size and position of each detail is not accidental. My work can be perceived not only visually, but also by ear. Metal is a natural material that has its own sound, which you can listen to and discover a new perspective of perception.”

“As a team of curators BOORYAK, we do our best to develop the project and make it regular. Thanks to the international format each sculptor brings a share of his/her national culture and worldview to the formation of the unique collection of the Contemporary Sculpture Boulevard, which has no analogues not only in Ukraine, but also abroad."

Retaining the regular format of the symposium, the city forms a unique collection of contemporary sculptures by artists from different countries of the world. Today the city collection reached 10 sculptures and we are witnessing the beginning of a new history of the Ukrainian city of Bila Tserkva. The city which ambitiously declares itself at the national and international cultural level.
