The title of the work, "Mass instruction weapon" is coming from the widely used expression “Mass destruction weapon”. You see a book on wheels that resembles an image of a cannon. The artist says that when you get education, which is symbolized by the image of the book, you get the knowledge and experience that allow you to look more widely at the many things that are happening around you. Knowledge can prevent wars. Wars are conflicts of points of view, when people can not come to a common agreement.
In the artwork, Florence Hoffmann questions us: "Why do you think that your ideology may be better than mine and why should I think that my ideology is better than yours?" Ideology is not worth a war, nowhere at no time. This is the main idea of the sculpture of Florence Hoffmann which she wants to convey to the audience.
Florence Hoffmann works with different materials creating sculptures from bronze, concrete, ceramics, metal, as well as making installations from books. Her sculptures and installations are full of conceptual meanings: her titles are often built on the wordsplay to encourage the viewer for reflection on the artwork.
Florence is a regular participant of international exhibitions, she has participated in about forty international sculpture symposiums in different parts of the world during the past 22 years: Europe, North America and Asia. Her works are presented in numerous private collections, museums and public spaces in America, Mexico, Canada, Japan, China, Thailand, Austria, France and Luxembourg.
Florence is not only an artist, but also the curator of the annual Gare-Art Festival, international sculpture symposium in Luxembourg.
